A Thank You to Coach Clay Thielking
Urbandale High School and the Activities Department would like to thank Coach Clay Thielking for his dedication, leadership, and impact on the J-Hawk Boys Basketball program over the past three seasons as Head Coach.
For Coach Thielking, leading the J-Hawks was more than just a coaching position, it was home.
A proud Urbandale alum from the Class of '94, Coach Thielking once played under legendary coach Brad Bjorkgren. Years later, after building a successful coaching career that included a return to Urbandale in '20-21 serving as Assistant alongside Coach Bjorkgen, as well as serving as Head Coach at Dowling Catholic. Ultimately led to him stepping into one of his mentor's roles when he was named the 13th Head Coach in program history in 2023.
From the moment he took over, Coach Thielking poured his heart into the program. His leadership, passion, and commitment to student-athletes helped elevate Urbandale Boys Basketball to new heights and helped lay the foundation for the program's future success.
This past season ('25-26), Coach Thielking helped guide the J-Hawks back to the state tournament at Casey's Center for the first time in 12 years. A milestone moment for the program, the players, and community.
Beyond the wins and accomplishments, Coach Thielking represented what it means to be a J-Hawk. He led with pride, built meaningful relationships with his players and families, and continued a tradition of excellence that connects generations of Urbandale basketball.
Coach Thielking's impact on this program will be felt for years to come, and his legacy will always remain a part of J-Hawk basketball.
Thank you, Coach Thielking, for your leadership, passion, and unwavering commitment to Urbandale.
Once a J-Hawk, Always a J-Hawk.
