Here are some brief descriptions of the various opportunities available.
Works the duration of the meet to assist in checking in athletes, distributing hip numbers, and providing event-specific instructions to competitors.
Finish Line - Recorder
Works with the Spotter to record order of finish for each event. Also gathers hand-held times from Timers This information is then sent upstairs to assist in evaluating the timing system results.
Finish Line - Spotter
Communicates order of finish for each event to the Recorder. This information is then sent upstairs to assist in evaluating the timing system results.
Finish Line - Sweeper
Primarily works the duration of the meet at the finish line to keep athletes in the correct order upon completion of each event; ensures athletes and event personnel are clear of the timing system cameras to ensure clear pictures while athletes cross the finish line.
Finish Line - Timer
Works the duration of the meet at the finish line operating a stopwatch to provide redundant results (primary results in the event of a timing system malfunction).
Exchange Zone Umpire
Works throughout the meet at predetermined spots (dependant upon event) to ensure competitors remain in their lanes throughout the course of the event and exchanges during relay events are made within the legal exchange zones.
Field Event Spotter
Works for the duration of that field event (typically until 6:30pm) to assist the event official in spotting, marking, and event operation
Shot Put & Discus (at Middle School practice fields): Mark attempts and help measure
High Jump (South end of Frerichs Field): Assists in moving the bar, keeps take-off area free of pedestrians
Long Jump (North end of Frerichs Field): Assists in spotting attempts, measuring, and raking the sand pits
